2018 RHS Chelsea flower show Silver Medallist.Having reached the grand age of 50 years, when Vanessa Wellock asked " Do you fancy entering Chelsea flower show?" it had to be a resounding Yes. It started out, "its the taking part"! that really counts. Really! tosh too that. Travelling down with car load full of beautiful Tropical flowers from Tropflo, it became a little more ambitious.
Although the tittle was probably not really my cup of tea, A tropical Dream, the brain started to process the ideas and possibilities. How exciting.
We started work at the show in the floral marquee at 9.45 on the Sunday evening with a lovely welcome from the wonderful stewards, who incidentally kept use watered and fed throughout the night until 6.04 on the Monday morning with copious amounts of tea/ coffee and biscuits. A big thank you, you made use feel both welcome and calm.
Before we had finished the design , my mind was thinking, this is not going to work, "is it good enough?. The talent and expertise within the room was incredibly high and quiet intimidating for a couple of newbies as we were aptly and rather fondly referred to. Although the other competitors are not being judged against each other, the execution and finish was perfection, hence many Golds were awarded that morning.
We got a Silver medal, how exciting, what a huge relief, it was actually quiet emotional. I had not really appreciated how important the result was going to be.
We did great, it was fabulous, a great experience. Vanessa has already asked" fancy returning next year? defiantly.
